Family Lawyer

I am a family lawyer who assists clients in all areas of family law, including divorce; separation (e.g. common law couples); marriage contracts (sometimes known as “prenups”); parenting time (access) and decision making responsibility (custody); spousal support; child support; and division of property.

I received my Juris Doctor degree in 2020, from Queen’s University, where I was a student of Nicholas Bala, an internationally recognized expert in family law. Upon graduating from Queen’s, I returned to Barrie to pursue my articles of clerkship at a large regional law firm. Upon my call to the bar, I trained at a boutique family law firm in Ottawa under one of the most senior family law practitioners in the region.

Later, I took my practice to a prominent Bay Street law firm where I assisted clients in litigation matters, including as co-counsel on the first ever appeal of a TLAB decision to the Superior Court of Justice’s Divisional Court.

Seeking the freedom to take on specific family law matters of my choosing and practice without the restrictions of a larger firm, I decided to open my own family law firm.

Having developed my legal perspective as a result of training under a number of well respected lawyers both in and outside of family law, I bring my own well considered approach to resolving family law matters, one with an emphasis on client communication, candour, and a pursuit of fair results for each of my clients. While reaching an out of court agreement is generally ideal, when this is not advisable, I am prepared to resolutely defend my clients in court through the traditional litigation process.

With formal training in alternative dispute resolution ("ADR"), I am a proponent of mediation, and arbitration, among other forms of ADR. As a result of the removal of the complexities of the traditional litigation process, mediation and arbitration offer the potential for a reduction in legal fees, reduced stress and faster resolutions compared to proceeding through the court system. For that reason, where possible, I provide such options to clients.
